CVS Health is going on a hiring spree across the country, including in Orlando.

The Woonsocket, Rhode Island-based company (NYSE: CVS) plans to hire roughly 15,000 people across the country for the fourth quarter, including 550 people in Central Florida. The move is in response to the potential for cases of Covid-19 and the flu to increase in the fall and winter.

“Additional team members typically are needed every flu season,” Lisa Bisaccia, chief human resources officer at CVS Health, said in a prepared statement. “However, we’re estimating a much greater need for trained pharmacy technicians this year given the continued presence of Covid-19 in our communities."

The roles include pharmacy technicians, nurse practitioners, call center representative and work from home customer service representatives. Markets where the company is seeking work-from-home customer service representatives besides Orlando include:

Indianapolis
Kansas City, Missouri
Knoxville, Tennessee
Mount Prospect, Illinois
Pittsburgh
San Antonio, Texas

The 15,000 additional nationwide positions are part of an effort announced in March to hire 50,000 new people as part of CVS Health's response to the pandemic. The job listings can be found here.

Meanwhile, Orlando's employment level has been impacted severely by the pandemic.

Metro Orlando had a 9.8% unemployment rate in September, according to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. The metro area led the state with 126,500 jobs lost year-over-year in September.
