7-Eleven Inc. estimates that the company, along with independent 7-Eleven franchise owners, have hired over 50,000 new store employees since March. The company is recruiting 20,000 more employees to meet continued demand amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The Irving-based retail chain also scaled its mobile checkout technology to new markets, expanded delivery from 400 to 1,300 cities and increased its U.S. store base by more than 300 stores this year, the company said in a news release. "Hiring 20,000 more store employees allows us to continue to fulfill our mission to give customers what they want, when and where they want it, whether in stores or at home," 7-Eleven President and CEO Joe DePinto said in a prepared statement. The company’s store employee positions will also help meet the demand in mobile orders through its delivery app as well. Recently, 7-Eleven announced that it had entered into an agreement to acquire Speedway convenience store chain from Ohio-based Marathon Petroleum Corp. for $21 billion in cash, according to recent reporting. The acquisition will bring 7-Eleven’s total number of stores to about 14,000 across Canada and the U.S, which will extend its lead over Canadian giant Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc., according to previous reporting. |
