1,600 jobs potentially coming to Kentucky

Jul 27, 2019 FRANKFORT — A series of five economic development announcements by Gov. Matt Bevin’s office this week means the potential creation of up to 1,600 new jobs across the state in the coming years.

Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings Inc., an air cargo company, will move its operations center from Florence to Erlanger near the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, with a $34.1 million investment expected to create about 600 additional full-time Kentucky jobs, in addition to the 318 currently employed there. The new facility is expected to open in 2021.

Atlas Air Worldwide, headquartered in Purchase, N.Y., provides outsourced aircraft and aviation operating services to global customers. Its subsidiaries include Atlas Air Inc., Southern Air Holdings Inc. and Titan Aviation Holdings Inc. The company also is the majority shareholder of Polar Air Cargo Worldwide Inc.

Faneuil Inc., a national customer service outsourcing company, plans to establish a new call center in Lexington, creating 450 full-time jobs over the next two-and-a-half years. They aim to steadily increase recruiting to employ approximately 200 people this year, potentially growing to 450 by the close of 2021.

Faneuil employs more than 5,500 people nationwide and provides customer service for commercial and government clients in sectors including transportation and tolling, health and human services, utilities, state and municipal governments and retail services.

Highlighting the state’s growing tech sector, El Toro Internet Marketing LLC has announced plans to add 400 jobs and invest $10.5 million in Louisville as the ad-tech firm moves its headquarters from downtown to a larger building in the NuLu area.

The jobs and new location come in response to increased customer demand. El Toro already employs over 100 people. The 400 additional jobs would include software engineers, programmers, data scientists and sales positions. Company leaders anticipate the headquarters relocation will be complete by February 2020.

PatienTech LLC, a manufacturer of tech-enabled healthcare products, will open a production facility in Mason County with a nearly $1.8 million investment expected to create up to 100 full-time jobs.

They will lease a 22,000-square-foot facility to relocate production from a Canadian operation.

PatienTech hopes to capitalize on growing global demand for medical and residential smart bed products. The Maysville facility will focus on production of smart bed components, including RF-welded bladders, computerized pumps and overall smart bed construction, for retail, healthcare and sports markets.

Meal preparation company MegaFit Meals LLC expects to create 50 jobs over the coming years with a $2.9 million investment to build a new facility in Benton.

Executives at MegaFit Meals, which prepares fresh cooked, healthy meals and ships them across the US, plan to build a 16,000-square-foot distribution facility to accommodate the company’s rapid growth since its founding in 2015.

Just two years after the construction of a new facility in Calvert City, the company now needs an operation four times larger because of its ongoing and expected future growth.

To encourage the investment and job growth in the community, the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority gave preliminary approval to all five companies for tax incentives. The performance-based incentive allows a company to keep a portion of the new tax revenue it generates over the agreement term through corporate income tax credits and wage assessments by meeting job and investment targets.
