Job Description
The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Software Engineer to join the Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) and Embedded Software Development Tools organization within Virtualization & Embedded Software Development Tools (VEST). In this role, you will play a critical part in designing, building, and operating cloud-based CI/CD platforms and pipelines that support GM’s embedded software production and large-scale virtualized test environments.
You will blend deep CI/CD tooling expertise with strong cloud infrastructure skills to enable automated software builds and headless execution of test cases against co-simulation packages. These capabilities are hosted on modern cloud platforms, providing integrated virtual workspaces, integration with test environments, and continuous visibility into software quality for teams across the enterprise.
What You’ll Do
-
Design, develop, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for embedded software production, enabling automated builds, integration, and testing.
-
Architect, implement, and operate cloud-based platforms that host build, test, and virtualization capabilities as part of an end-to-end CI/CD framework.
-
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (development, test, platform, IT operations, cybersecurity) to define, document, and implement best practices for build, test, and deployment automation.
-
Ensure the scalability, reliability, availability, and security of CI/CD pipelines and cloud platforms, optimizing them for efficient and predictable software delivery.
-
Integrate CI/CD pipelines with physical and virtual test environments to enable seamless execution of automated test suites and co-simulation workloads.
-
Develop new and innovative methods to automate provisioning, configuration, monitoring, and maintenance of the virtualization platform and associated cloud services.
-
Monitor and analyze pipeline and platform performance, reliability, and software quality metrics; identify bottlenecks and implement data-driven improvements.
-
Work closely with software developers, architects, test engineers, and stakeholders to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to builds, pipelines, and cloud infrastructure.
-
Act as a subject matter expert for cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and virtualization within the broader organization, providing guidance, documentation, and training as needed.
-
Partner with internal IT operations, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and supplier teams to ensure platforms comply with corporate policies, standards, and requirements.
-
Prepare and deliver clear updates, technical reviews, and live demonstrations of platform capabilities and roadmap to various levels of leadership and external partners.
-
Stay current with industry trends and advancements in DevOps, cloud-native technologies, and virtualization, and incorporate relevant innovations into the platform.
Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)
-
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
-
Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in software tools, platform, or infrastructure development, with a strong focus on DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and/or cloud-based applications.
-
Strong expertise in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins and GitHub Actions (or comparable technologies).
-
Hands-on experience with major cloud platforms (such as Azure or AWS) and relevant services, including containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.).
-
Proficiency in programming and scripting languages such as Python, Bash, and at least one of C, C++, or Java.
-
Solid understanding of embedded software development tools, build processes, and workflows.
-
Knowledge of test automation frameworks, tools, and practices for software validation in both virtual and hardware-in-the-loop environments.
-
Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and maintaining CI/CD pipeline solutions for complex, multi-component systems.
-
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills across build, pipeline, and infrastructure layers.
-
Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, with a track record of working effectively in cross-functional, Agile/DevOps environments.
-
Proven ability to lead or drive challenging technical projects with high levels of ambiguity to successful completion.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
-
Experience developing and maintaining large-scale cloud-native platforms supporting build, test, or simulation workloads.
-
Familiarity with GM in-house test automation tools and libraries, or similar automotive/embedded test frameworks.
-
Familiarity with software build systems and tools used for embedded development.
-
Knowledge of automotive communication protocols (e.g., CAN, LIN, Ethernet, SPI).
-
Experience with automotive development tools such as Vector CANape/CANoe, dSPACE SystemDesk/VEOS, AutoVal, or Intrepid Vehicle Spy.
-
Experience integrating or supporting virtual workspaces and remote development environments.
-
Awareness of corporate cybersecurity standards and best practices and how they apply to cloud and CI/CD platforms.
