We made history and now we work to transform the future – for our customers, our communities and our families. You'll see your work on the road every day, helping people move freely and pursue their dreams. At Ford, you can build more than vehicles. Come build what matters.
Racing is where our story began.
In 1901, Henry Ford climbed into a car he built himself—'Sweepstakes'—and beat America's most famous driver. He wasn't a racer, but he had to win. He did. Ford Motor Company was born from that victory.
That fighting spirit lives on in Ford Racing today. We're the engineers, strategists, and competitors who bring Ford's track-tested edge into every vehicle we build. Every track, every stage, every proving ground—that's where we prove ourselves.
The result: one of the world's most iconic brands, legendary nameplates, and a team unmatched in the industry.
Our mantra: Race to win, engineer to lead.
If you're a competitor, innovator, or performance obsessive, Ford Racing is where you belong. Help us write the next chapter.
In this position...
- In Ford Racing, you will be a CAD/surfacing engineer supporting our Motorsports Aerodynamics group, translating aero performance targets into precise, CFD-ready 3D surfaces and physical hardware. You'll work hand-in-hand with aerodynamicists to rapidly convert wind tunnel and simulation findings into geometry that can be evaluated, iterated, and validated in a fast-paced racing development cycle.
- Beyond surfacing, you'll also design mechanical components and mounting hardware, and prepare geometry for rapid prototyping of scale models used in our wind tunnel program.
- This role is focused on functional, analysis-driven surfacing — not showroom Class-A finish — so speed, accuracy, and aerodynamic intent matter more than cosmetic polish. As we build our team, we're focusing on a culture of excellence and collaboration where we work together to exceed our performance targets.
What you'll do...
- Build and modify 3D surfaces and geometry to translate aerodynamic design intent and CFD/wind tunnel feedback into usable CAD models.
- Design mechanical components, brackets, and mounting hardware to integrate aero devices and instrumentation onto full-scale and scale-model vehicles.
- Prepare and optimize CAD geometry for rapid prototyping (3D printing/additive manufacturing) of scale models for wind tunnel testing.
- Rapidly iterate surface and mechanical geometry to support quick-turn CFD studies, wind tunnel builds, and aero correlation loops.
- Manage CAD/surfacing content lifecycle within the PLM structure (Teamcenter/3DX) to keep aero and design teams aligned.
You'll have...
- Associate's degree in a technical discipline or equivalent design experience within the automotive field or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- 3+ years of experience in an automotive/motorsports product development environment.
- 2+ years of experience surfacing and mechanical modeling in Catia (GSD/ISB), 3DX, NX, SolidWorks, ICEM Surf, Alias, or similar tools.
- Working knowledge of surfacing techniques for functional/aerodynamic geometry (freeform surfaces, lofts, blends) rather than Class-A styling surfaces.
- Experience designing mechanical components/hardware and preparing models for rapid prototyping or additive manufacturing.
- Capability to use 3D CAD/surfacing software as a collaborative tool in a rapid-iteration environment.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, especially with aerodynamics and performance engineering teams.
- Understanding and proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
Even better, you may have...
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent design experience within the automotive/motorsports field.
- Experience surfacing geometry specifically for CFD meshing and simulation input.
- Direct experience supporting scale-model wind tunnel builds, including design for 3D-printed or CNC-machined model components.
- Familiarity with CFD pre-processing/meshing requirements and how surface quality impacts simulation results.
- Experience with vehicle architecture, chassis, or underbody aero components.
- Knowledgeable in design-for-manufacturing processes for both additive manufacturing and composite/aero bodywork (carbon fiber layup, molding, etc.).
- Exemplary communication skills, highly collaborative, and eager to work at race-team pace on fast-turnaround projects.
You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!
