Maitland tech company chooses Florida for 1,000-job expansion

Maitland tech company chooses Florida for 1,000-job expansion

Digital Risk LLC, a fast-growing developer of mortgage risk-analysis software, has chosen Florida for its previously-announced companywide expansion that will create 1,000 new jobs over the next two years, the Maitland-based company said Wednesday.

Lured by state and local incentive deals potentially worth $4.4 million, Digital Risk said it chose Florida over Dallas and Denver – where it already has facilities – and Phoenix and Charlotte, N.C. The company announced its decision during a visit to its Maitland headquarters by Gov. Rick Scott.

Digital Risk's high-wage jobs in software development, mortgage underwriting, fraud detection and other skills pay average annual salaries approaching $50,000, according to state economic development agreements.

"The growth of Digital Risk perfectly demonstrates Florida' ability to recruit and retain innovative companies that can contribute to our economy and provide high value jobs for Floridians," Gov. Rick Scott said in a prepared statement.

Company officials have yet to determine exactly where the new jobs will be added, but Central Florida is high on the list of potential sites, CEO Peter Kassabov said in an interview.

The company is "exploring" the possibility of opening two new facilities in the region, he said. Those sites would be in addition to its Maitland headquarters – its largest location - which is now at capacity, with about 700 workers.

"We are committed to create jobs in Florida for the long-term," Kassabov said. "We hope that our story, the success that Digital Risk has had, would be part of the recipe for recovery in the economy, and throughout the rest of the country."

Since doubling its Maitland work force in 2009, Digital Risk established operations in Jacksonville in 2010 and in Boca Raton last month – when the company announced plans to fill 1,000 job openings at its seven locations nationwide.

With annual revenues approaching $100 million, Digital Risk's growth has been fueled by demand in the financial sector for its software capabilities, which provide high-speed, high-volume risk-analysis and fraud detection in mortgage loan documents.
