"Tulsa Public Schools Lay Off 114 Employees"

Tulsa, Oklahoma has been hit hard by the recession. Today 114 public school employees lost their jobs and 47 additional vacant positions will remain unfilled. The layoffs will save up to $5.6 million during the current school year. State aid to Tulsa Public Schools has been $6.5 million less than last year. The school deficit could rise to $10 million before the summer. 85% of the school budget goes to personnel. Employees received notices last week and have 10 days to appeal. The layoffs will go into effect July 1. Many of those who lost their jobs held administrative jobs.
