Senior Audit Accountant, Municipal Practice

Location: Farmington Hills, MI.

 

A Senior Governmental Accountant is in a position of advanced technical aptitude and supervisory responsibilities.  A senior must be able to handle more complex assignments than the staff, begin to learn the complete process of managing all tasks regarding client work, and take a lead role in developing/reviewing the work of less experienced staff. The senior role is the bridge between the staff, who are executing the client-service related tasks, and the management, who are strategizing and overseeing successful completion of efficient engagement activity and top quality client service.  The senior needs to be the liaison to management, and therefore needs to develop a broader scope of the business into a supervisory role. The senior increasingly needs to be able to perform the most complex technical tasks of the engagement and work more and more with less supervision. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Supervise and coordinate audit activities of staff

·         Provide thorough review of staff work product while providing appropriate feedback

·         Calculate appropriate budgets and manage actual time in relation to budgets

·         Develop client presentations and participate in bids for opportunities for new clients

·         Assist in the preparation of management reports and other statutory filings

·         Develop ideas to assist client with operational and internal control opportunities

·         Examine and analyze client accounting records to determine financial status and prepare financial statements

·         Inspect items in clients accounting system to determine if GAAP was followed in recording transactions

·         Make formal recommendations when applicable regarding imposing operations and financial positions of clients

·         Develop relationships with clients, including involvement in networking and business development activities

·         Develop strong technical research skills, including use of electronic tools

 

REQUIREMENTS

·         Bachelors in Accounting, Masters preferred

·         5+ years in relevant position, auditing Governmental client

·         Must have CPA License

·         Advanced knowledge of GASB Standards and their application to the clients accounting system

·         Experience in assisting client in applying for and receiving GFOA Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting program

·         Knowledge and experience of requirements in performing A-133 audits
